welcome to the callenharty.com arizona trip photography page
These are scans from a summer of 1994 trip to the desert southwest, specifically to Arizona to visit friends Mark and Steve. But along the way we stopped in Liberal, Kansas to view Dorothy's house. We passed through small parts of Oklahoma and Texas and then into New Mexico, which is one of most beautiful and lovely of the states I have visited. In New Mexico we visited Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands (where we saw a Stealth fighter jet race past so fast I couldn't get my camera up fast enough to photograph it), and Alamogordo. In Arizona we visited our friends in Phoenix, along with the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, Mission San Xavier del Bac, and the Grand Canyon. We also took a day trip south and crossed the border into Mexico for a couple hours at Nogales. On the way home, crossing the desert in Arizona we came across a drum competition on the Navajo radio station, the only time we turned on the radio the whole trip, and had the native music escort us across the desert landscape to sunset. We made a last-minute decision to come home through Colorado and continued on home from there. The photos were taken with a 35mm film camera and these are scans from the negatives. This is a small selection from the trip as many of the scans are not that good.
